Your Child Just Got Into High School! Now What?

We are so proud of our 8th graders after the super busy admissions season, and we are excited to hear all about their day and boarding school acceptances (March 10th!). Our Executive Director, Sasha DeWind, has outlined what comes next:

1. Talk to Us!

We know these high schools and can help you make the right decision about fit. We want to help your family choose the place where your child will thrive: academically, socially, and emotionally. Everything is downstream of that. In many cases, we can also connect you to families at these schools in case you still need more feedback.

2. Make Some Decisions.

You’ll need to decide whether or not to stay on wait lists (and how to manage those) and put down a deposit by deadlines.

3. Get Ready for Placement Tests.

Each school does these a little differently, but most kids should expect to take math & foreign language placement tests in early May. These are important for curricular decisions moving forward. We help kids every year with placement exams, so ask for help!

4. Use Summer Wisely.

Every single child should be doing something before 9th grade to prepare themselves for a smooth transition. For some kids, that’s previewing Geometry in August so that math goes smoothly. Others need to work on executive functioning skills. We really want our kids prepared for 9th grade, academically.

We got through SSATs and ISEEs, but we are always here, as your partners in all things learning. We are happy to help or connect you with experts who can. We know some of you are still waiting for boarding decisions, and we are here to connect post-March 10th as well.

Please send us your choices when you’ve received everything, and we can hop on a call to chat more!
